Hair Care & How to Enhance it
Curly Hair Information
Beautiful natural looking curls are sexy and alluring, playful and romantic. From a relaxed wave to kinky spirals, women pay lots of money to emulate this look. The only time it isn`t desired is when you're blessed with them naturally. There are all sorts of products on the market to tame curls, reduce frizz, and maintain control.
One of the problems with curly hair is that it can get frizzy. To maintain curls that don’t look like you have just woken up, you’ll need to take extra time when you shampoo and condition. There are a number of high quality hair care products that control frizz so be sure to use these products when dealing with your hair. When using a leave-in conditioner, use a wide-toothed comb to distribute the conditioner from roots to ends. Keep as much moisture in your hair as possible—it’s the lack of moisture that causes frizz. Be sure to use a detangling spray and gel to shape your hair and use your fingers to gently scrunch your curls. Blow-drying can make frizz worse so air-dry your hair whenever possible. Pomades also work wonders for taming curly hair in a way that keeps its natural shape while adding shine and bounce.
Reduce the Frizz: Use a pomade that has a low level of hold and has some oil in it. After washing your hair, put some pomade in the palm of your hand and add a little water for easier spreading. Using your fingertips, lightly finger the pomade through your hair. Allow the pomade to dry and then comb through it or leave it if the curls look good. If this seems too heavy, try a lighter pomade or a gel, but not a mousse.
Reduce the curl: If you have naturally curly hair, but want to wear it straight, rinse with the coldest water you can after using a shampoo and conditioner for straight hair. The cold water "locks down" the hair cuticle and makes hair appear sleeker, less frizzy.
Curly hair is one of four hair categories and has two subtypes. Regular curly hair has a defined S pattern that can form loops. Truly curly hair tends to spring back into place after being stretched out. Soft and fine in texture, curly hair types contain smooth cuticle layers, which can result in less shine. While curly hair has a lot of natural body, it can become straightened when wet but is also prone to frizz when exposed to humidity. The two subtypes of curly hair are loosely curled and medium to tight curly hair. Loosely curled hair contains hairs that appear straight when cut short but when allowed to grow out, they sport large, shiny curls. Medium to tight curly hair types form cork crew curls or ringlets.
Wavy hair is another hair type. Wavy hair is neither straight nor curly. Wavy hair does contain an S pattern but is often hard to curl or maintain body and volume. Wavy hair contains three types: fine/thin, medium, and thick/course. Fine wavy hair types are easy to style with a curling iron or flat iron, while medium wavy hair is more difficult to style and can get frizzy easily. Thick and course wavy hair types are the most resistant to curling or straightening and often have the worst case of frizz.
Kinky hair consists of very tight curls that are wiry and very fragile. This type of hair's usually tightly packed together and offers sheen but not shine. Because it contains less hair cuticles, it tends to be soft but likely to break, which makes it difficult to grow long. The two types of kinky hair are tightly coiled S pattern hair and tightly coiled Z pattern hair. The first type maintains its S pattern when stretched and contains a little moisture. The second type maintains a Z pattern when stretched and has the least moisture of all hair types.
Calming Down the Curls It is quite common for unruly hair to also be loaded with natural curls. If you are battling with your curly hair every morning, you will be only too aware of the challenges that come with curls. To keep them under control, it is best to avoid washing your hair every day. When you do shampoo, follow up with a conditioner that contains a detangler to help you take a comb through your hair more efficiently. Use a styling gel as they are effective at controlling hair and diminishing frizzies. Bear in mind that a blow dryer is not a friend of curly hair, so avoid it when possible and allow your locks to air dry instead.
Afro Caribbean women have their own concerns regarding their hair and the styles they wear. Luckily there are now a range of products that are specifically designed for the unique needs of Afro Caribbean hair. Since coarse, curly hair has a tendency to get dry and brittle easily, moisturizing treatments are high on your hair care list. Bear in mind that the longer you want to keep your hair, the more moisturizing treatments and care your hair will require. The good news is that with the massive range of conditioners, straighteners and relaxers on the market today, you are bound to find the perfect product that will allow you to get the style of your dreams.
The perfect afro may look easy to attain but takes patience and skill to perfect. The afro is an easy way to style hair that is naturally curly, but will take quite a bit more work if your hair is normally flat. If you want to shape your afro into a dome or make it a less conventional shape, these tips are a good place to start. If you have curly hair you probably won’t need anything to hold your afro in place.
1. Wash and dry your hair.
2. Apply a little almond, jojoba, or other oil or cream to your hair for texture and shine. Use oil in your hair to help increase the shine of your afro, but do not use creams that will flake once they are dry.
3. Comb hair a bit with a wide toothed comb and let it air dry.
Consider using a pick to shape your afro. Instead of shaping it into a dome, pick it out on the sides and make it look like a retro a 50’s style pompadour.
The afro is a hair style that can fool the eye and make you look like you have much shorter hair than usual.
Relax your curls:
You’ve probably envied girls with beautiful relaxed curls and straight, sleek hair at some time or another if you have naturally curly hair. Maybe it was because you were bored with your naturally curly hair or you were tired of the bad frizzy hair days. Getting the hair you want is not impossible. You can straighten it using a chemical relaxer. A relaxer can easily provide you with the style you are looking for.
Before you begin relaxing your hair, make sure your hair can handle a chemical relaxer. If your hair is damaged in anyway, then a relaxer is not for you. If you’re a keen swimmer, have recently used any other chemicals in your hair or you don’t really have the time to maintain your hair, then a relaxer is not for you.
If you adopt a good hair style, treat your hair well by not over washing, and use a few quick styling techniques, you will have curly hair that anyone would envy.
