How to Achieve Fuller, Thicker Hair

There are lots of hair shampoos, conditioners and mousses on the market promising to add volume to your hair.

How do these products work? These products contain humectants that swell the hair shaft while polymers coat each strand. Your hair instantly looks thicker.

Give Me Volume
One of the biggest problems that we hear associated with long hair is the fact that it simply hangs there. What women want is long, smooth hair, but with just enough volume to look full and luxurious.

Here are a few ways to achieve that:
* Volumizing starts with cleansing, and this should involve a volumizing or thickening shampoo and conditioner. Conditioners can be applied after shampooing and rinsed out, or you could use a leave-in conditioner that can actually lift your roots and thicken your hair. When applying your conditioner, work it into the roots and then comb it through the hair strands so that most of the product does not weigh down the ends.

* If your hair seems to be flat the second it dries, the next time you wash it, try sitting on a chair and then lean over so that your hair falls forward (towards your knees). With your fingers, help your hair dry and at the last minute, use a blow dryer to finish the job. When you flip your hair back into place, you will have twice the volume you started with.

* To add volume, quite often styling products can help in a big way. Mousse is probably the best product you can use for this purpose and they come in all price ranges.

* Another trick that seems to thicken and add volume to hair is to colour it. Using a colour that is close to your natural shade will give you optimum fullness – or the illusion of it.

* Choosing the right shampoo will come as no surprise as not all shampoos are created equally. Check out the number of products on the market and read the labels. There are some really good volumizing shampoos that are targeted for help thinning hair.

* If you are looking for lots of volume, but not a lot of curl, pick up a set of the largest velcro rollers you can find. When the hair is barely damp to the touch, roll all of your hair in these self holding rollers and then allow it to dry naturally. The results will be tons of volume.

* Take a look at what extensions and hairpieces have to offer. They can add volume, curls and even length to nearly any hair type and look as natural as your own hair.

* A great haircut can make the world of difference when it comes to working with thin or fine hair. A good hair cut can even make your hair seem thicker. Generally shorter hair cuts work best to disguise thinning hair. Layering can cover those thinner areas where the scalp shows through.

* Thinning hair on men does not have to result in shaving your head. You can choose instead for some styling products and techniques that will make the most of your current hair. Avoid styling gels - they will only matte hair together and accentuate thin hair. Opt instead for texturizing lotions and creams that will add fullness and volume to your hair style. Another option in styling products is a leave-in conditioner that can make your hair appear fuller and more texturized.
